Richard W. Levitt, Esq.,the founding partner of Levitt & Kaizer, has a national reputation for excellence. Described by a Second Circuit Judge in the Foreword of a popular legal treatise as “an outstanding defense lawyer with a scholarly bent,” he is author of, The Second Circuit Criminal Law Update, a 1,200-page outline of Second Circuit criminal Law (North Law Publishers 2012), and has written numerous magazine articles on a variety of subjects. He has been a frequent lecturer for several organizations including the New York County Lawyers Association, the New York Criminal Bar Association and the Center for Negotiation Strategy. Nicholas G. Kaizer, Esq. is a partner in Levitt & Kaizer and has been a practicing attorney in New York since 1988. He graduated with honors from Boston University, and was awarded his juris doctorate degree from the University of Miami School of Law. After graduation, Mr. Kaizer practiced law in Miami before returning to New York, where he currently specializes in criminal defense and litigation. A nationally recognized expert in criminal defense and in the United States Sentencing Guidelines, he has appeared before the Federal Sentencing Commission as an expert, advising judges, prosecutors and defense concerning bases for non-Guideline sentences and departures. Mr. Kaizer also practices federal and state civil litigation, having represented clients in a broad range of cases. He is admitted in New York, Florida and the District of Columbia, as well as in the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, the Southern District of Florida and the United States Court of Appeals for the Second and Eleventh Circuits. Mr. Kaizer has written articles for legal periodicals concerning defense in criminal matters and has contributed to several of Richard Levitt's annual Second Circuit Criminal Law Updates.  Yvonne Shivers, Esq. is senior appellate counsel at Levitt & Kaizer. She is a graduate of New York University School of Law, (1986) and earned her bachelor’s degree from New York University, graduating cum laude with honors in political science. Ms. Shivers has been practicing law in New York for over 20 years. Her career has included serving as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of New York and as a Legislative Director of the New York State Trial Lawyer’s Association’s Consumer’s Rights Division; most of her career, however, has been in criminal appellate practice. Prior to joining Levitt & Kaizer, Ms. Shivers forged her appellate practice skills at the appellate division of the Legal Aid Society and later at Appellate Advocates, where she had an excellent reputation for written and oral advocacy. Since joining the firm, Ms. Shivers has been involved in the litigation and appeal of a number of high profile and other cases, in both federal and state appellate courts, on such charges as RICO, fraud, defamation, drug distribution, murder, robbery, arson, bribery and money laundering. Ms. Shivers also has extensive experience litigating post-conviction remedies, other than criminal appeals, in state and federal court, including post-verdict and post-judgment motions, federal habeas corpus petitions and state coram nobis petitions. Ms. Shivers is currently working on a handbook regarding post-conviction remedies in state and federal courts which she hopes to publish in 2011. Ms. Shivers is a member of the New York Criminal Bar Association, the Westchester County Bar Association, the New York Women’s Bar Association, the Metropolitan Black Bar Association and the New York County Lawyer’s Association, where she sits on the appellate and criminal justice panels.  Dean M. Solomon, Esq. joined Levitt & Kaizer in July 2010 and has been a practicing attorney in New York since 2001. He earned his baccalaureate degree from Georgetown University, summa cum laude, where he was a pre-law/ political theory major, philosophy minor, and where he studied constitutional law with the Honorable Robert A. Katzmann, now United States Circuit Judge for the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. He earned his juris doctorate degree from the University of Michigan Law School, cum laude, where he also served as Associate Editor for the Michigan Law Review. While still in law school Mr. Solomon served during a summer as a California State Bar-certified law clerk for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. He subsequently volunteered during the school year at the Parnall Correctional Facility in Jackson, Michigan, helping inmates draft their criminal appeals. Since beginning his professional practice, Mr. Solomon has been engaged primarily in civil and complex commercial litigation in the federal and state trial and appellate courts, including the United States Supreme Court. He has represented indigents, non-profits, and transnational corporations, and has been involved in some of the largest multi-district class actions in United States history. He has also had the distinct pleasure of representing Apple Corps Ltd. (The Beatles) and The Estate of George Harrison. While developing into a “jack of all practice areas,” Mr. Solomon has gained particular celebrity in the areas of intellectual property, copyright and trademark, and entertainment law. He is admitted to practice in the State of New York, and the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.

Emily Golub joined Levitt & Kaizer in 2011. A graduate of New York University School of Law, Ms. Golub interned with the Federal Defenders of New York in the Southern District and served as a Student Attorney in NYU’s Federal Defender Clinic. She was also a Student Instructor for NYU’s Prisoners’ Rights and Education Project. Ms. Golub received her undergraduate degree from Northwestern University.
