Note: Looking at today's statistics we see 52 currently positive-testing inmates and 133 currently positive-testing staff. This even though there are some four times more inmates than staff. This disparity represents a complete about-face from the stats earlier in the pandemic, where inmate positives vastly outnumbered staff. Why? For whatever reason it appears a far larger percentage of inmates than staff are being vaccinated (and, of course, many inmates who tested positive already have some measure of immunity). With the rise of the Delta variant, this disparity between inmate and staff will likely continue or even increase. COVID-19 vaccines are still classified as "emergency use" but once they are fully approved by the FDA the BOP should require all staff to be vaccinated ? States routinely require students to be vaccinated with multiple vaccines, including Hepatitis B vaccine; Measles, Mumps and Rubella vaccine (MMR); Polio vaccine; Varicella (Chickenpox) vaccine; Tdap vaccine; Meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MenACWY); Haemophilus influenzae type b conjugate vaccine (HiB); Pneumococcal Conjugate vaccine (PCV). Why should BOP staff be given a pass when their failure to be vaccinated puts so many at risk?
Death Watch: The government has reported no additional inmate fatalities, leaving the number of inmate fatalities at 240. Five of these inmates died while on home confinement. Staff fatalities remain at 4.
