System-wide testing results: Presently, BOP has 124,602 federal inmates in BOP-managed institutions and 13,660 in community-based facilities. Today's stats:
Completed tests: 105,803 (up from 105,465)
Positive tests: 46,897 (up from 46,843)
Big Picture: Currently positive-testing inmates now number 1,082 and currently positive-testing staff now number 1,627. A couple of observations: The numbers of currently positive-testing inmates compared to staff have flip-flopped. Traditionally, infected inmates have far outnumbered infected staff. In fact, total positive-testing inmates number close to 48,000, yet total positive-testing staff total about 6,500. Second, the number of currently positive-testing inmates has not been this low since the end of April 2020. And, as more inmates are immunized and with the warmer weather coming that number should continue to decrease. Of course, those favorable trends could reverse quickly, as we can see from the graph above, but for now the numbers are certainly good news.
