Quick Facts:

Currently positive-testing staff: 1,615 (down from 1,620)

Recovered inmates: 46,876 (down(?) from 46,933)

Recovered staff: 4,907 (up from 4,897)

Manchester FCI: 36 (unchanged)

Institutions with the largest number of currently positive-testing staff:

Pollock USP: 83 (unchanged)

Tucson USP: 69 (unchanged)

Talladega FCI: 46 (unchanged)

System-wide testing results: Presently, BOP has 124,679 federal inmates in BOP-managed institutions and 13,738 in community-based facilities. Today's stats:

Completed tests: 105,991 (up from 105,988)

Positive tests: 46,892 (up from 46,901)

Phony Stats?: We've been reporting how the number of presently infected staff are now about double the number of presently infected inmates, a complete turnaround from prior stats. We have noticed, however, that the BOP does not appear to be updating the staff numbers regularly, which suggests the stats may be inflated. Thus the numbers we see today: Pollock USP: 83; Tucson USP: 69; and Talladega FCI: 46, haven't changed since February 25. This is not the first time we've seen this phenomenon. We've already commented on how the BOP's reports of infected inmates may substantially under-count infections because of slack testing. Can we trust BOP's stats regarding infected staff? Not clear.

Death Watch: The BOP reports no new COVID-related fatalities. Inmate fatalities remain at 224. Four of these inmates died while on home confinement. Staff fatalities remain at 4.
