System-wide testing results: Presently, BOP has 124,779 federal inmates in BOP-managed institutions and 13,678 in community-based facilities. Today's stats:

Completed tests: 106,556 (up from 106,499)

Positive tests: 46,920 (up from 46,948)

Inmate immunizations: As we approach the first anniversary of COVID in the prisons we now can truly see the light at the end of the tunnel. This is because immunizations continue to increase and it appears to be the BOP's goal to immunize all inmates willing to get the shot. As usual, however, the BOP statistics are somewhat weird (you'll notice that yesterday the BOP reported 47,100 "recovered" inmates and today they report less-- 47,064). Today, the BOP reports 75,395 vaccine doses have been "distributed" but 75,780 -- 385 more --have been "administered." Go figure. But even accepting such anomalies, it's clear that herd immunity within BOP is a real possibility. Of course, whether risk will persist given that BOP does not require prison staff to be immunized remains to be seen.

Death Watch: The BOP reports no new deaths. Inmate deaths remain at 225. Four of these inmates died while on home confinement. Staff fatalities remain at 4.
