In the news: The Sentencing Commission just published additional stats regarding the granting of compassionate release in 2020. Here's the month-by-month breakdown. As you can see, the trend is toward denying an increasing percentage of applications. However, these stats do not extend to 2021 so it's not clear whether grants picked up as COVID increased during the first through months of 2021.

Death Watch: The BOP has reported no additional inmate fatalities, leaving the number of inmate fatalities at 240. Five of these inmates died while on home confinement. Staff fatalities remain at 4.
